Paris Hilton offered plea bargain
Socialite Paris Hilton.
Paris Hilton is to be given the chance to make a deal with the court and stay out of prison following her recent arrest in Las Vegas, E! Online reports. On the 28 August Paris was charged with felony drugs possession and lying to a police officer after cocaine was found in a bag she was carrying whilst in Las Vegas. Hilton denied the handbag, and cocaine, was hers. However, a month prior to her arrest, Paris posted a picture of an identical Chanel handbag on Twitter and told her followers how much she loved her new bag.
Insiders say Hilton is being given the chance to avoid going to jail if she pleads guilty to a lesser charge, misdemeanour drug possession. Officials refused to discuss Paris case but have admitted a fine and probation, rather than prison time, could be a possible sentence.
"Possession of a controlled substance is a felony punishable by a minimum term of one year and a maximum term of four years, the Clark County District Attorneys office explained. "She may also be fined up to $5,000 (£3,200). This charge is probationable, so the court could sentence her to a term of probation, rather than prison time."
