Can Anne Hathaway play Emma?

There are some books that will stick with you for a lifetime. One Day by David Nichols is one of them.

Helping me through a tough time, I relished reading One Day. It resonated with me on so many levels, was more than just a soppy rom com, and delivered characters that were fresh, appealing and life-like.

So, as with many fans of the book, I'm sceptical about the film that's due to be released in August.

First off, I had reservations about how well the book, which documents the lives of the two main characters on the same day each year, would copy onto the screen. The fact that writer David Nicholls also wrote the screenplay does fill me with a little hope.

Second up were reservations that Jim Sturgess, who's appeared in films such as 21 and The Other Boleyn Girl, and takes this on as his biggest feature film to-date, wouldn't be able to play Dexter - the epitome of a bad boy - in the way I envisioned him in the book. Meeting him for the junket of The Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole didn't do much to dampen my doubts, he was SUCH a nice guy.

However, from checking out the trailer he looks like he pulls it off.

But, I am, have always been and still am, sceptical about Anne Hathaway's performance. Number one, what's with that English accent? Number two... nope I'm still stuck on the English accent. Emma is meant to be comfortable and bookish, not Anne Hathaway put in dowdy clothes in the hope that we might think she's normal. Anne Hathaway, with her huge eyes and massive lips, is anything but normal. Watch our interview with her where she wears the tightest leather trousers to see exactly why.

What do you think? Can Hathaway pull it off? Have you read the book? Will you be going to see One Day? Let us know below.
