My New Year's resolutions
To me, New Year's resolutions, like rules, are made to be broken. I don't even pretend when I make them that there's any likelihood that I'm going to keep them, and therefore they always seem to be completely flamboyant. I may as well make the resolution that, this year, I intend to make more trips to the moon. So, instead, my resolutions for 2012 are going to be bite-sized. Small things that I can see myself actually doing.
Here's how I'm going to improve my life, and myself next year.
1.Get a hold of my finances
I am going to set a budget. It'll probably be a bit more lenient than George Osbourne's idea of a budget, but never-the-less, I am going to do it. Whether that's just making sure I buy a monthly Tube pass, restricting myself to two nights out a week (a mean feat in London, let me assure you) or finding new and exciting ways to liven up packed lunches, so be it.
2. Be a little bit braver
Veronica, our Lifestyle Editor, has said that she wants to learn to defend herself as one of her New Year's resolutions. I, on the other hand, have a less physical conundrum. I want to be a bit braver and learn to say 'yes' more. I'm a little bit shy, although many would argue the point, especially when it comes to meeting new people and dating. So, my New Year's resolution is to throw caution into the wind and go with the flow a little bit more. After all, where can it get me? Except having a bit more fun!
3. Start a weekly class
This one seems like a bit of a no-brainer, but I actually never do any exercise. To me, the thought of running around a park (I once had to stay off work sick after over-exerting myself on a morning run. I was seeing stars every time I tried to stand up!) or going to the gym brings me out in a cold sweat. So, I'm going to do something I love! I'm thinking tap or jazz!
4. Give a little bit more
Whether it's time for my friends and family, my services for volunteering or just £2 a month to a charity of my choice, I've decided it's time I started giving back a bit more. I was talking with a friend of mine recently and we discussed how giving £2 a month may seem like a little, but if ten of your friends did the same a charity would be getting £20 a month. So I'm going to start giving a charity £2 of my money (not even the cost of my tall mocha from Starbucks of a Monday) and encourage my friends to do the same. You should try it too.
5. Get a hold of my health
Though I'm loath to admit it, my Dad's right. I don't look after myself. After a hard days work at handbag.com, eating cupcakes that are sent into the office left, right and centre, I never want to go home and cook myself something that I know will give me the energy I need for the next day. Instead, I tend to live off a very unhealthy diet, and then wonder why I'm feeling fatigue. It's time I grab a hold of my lifestyle and give it the shake it deserves. I'm going to try a new, healthy dish once a week at the most, and then incorporate it into my weekly food routine.
