We're so confused by this film
When Valentine's Day hit the big screen last year, we knew that we wanted to avoid it like the plague. Don't ask us why, it was just a hunch from watching the trailer. That's why its sequel New Year's Eve is confusing us so much. Was Valentine's Day actually a must-see film that should definitely be a part of our lives? Thankfully, a quick scour of Rotten Tomatoes tells us no. But then, why is it's sequel New Year's Eve causing us so much confusion?
New Years's Eve stars Hilary Swank. Who, in our eyes, can do no wrong. She even managed to make romantic comedy PS I Love You strangely respectable, even though it should have been doomed to romantic comedy cliches (don't get us wrong, we LOVE a rom-com as much as the next person, but do find ourselves subjected to unimpressed glances if we announce this in a room full of filmy people). So, having her appear within the first few seconds of the trailer is a brilliant marketing ploy. Automatically we feel less guilty for watching because 'hey! Hilary Swank is in it!' and start thinking about booking our cinema tickets.
We get even more confused when the rest of the trailer show us that Abigail Breslin, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro, yes Robert De Niro, have all got bit parts. Surely this must be one of the best films ever made?
What do you think? Are you going to go and see New Year's Eve? Do we need to lighten up a little and get in the holiday spirit? Are we going to find ourselves watching Pancake Day starring Tom Hanks, Catherine Deneuve, Steve Buscemi, Jessica Chastain and Ryan Gosling next?
