Golden Globes 2011: Natalie Portman's winning speech
Natalie Portman and her Best Actress Golden Globe gong
Natalie Portman, who won the Best Actress prize at the Golden Globes, got the biggest laughs thanks to her funny but touching acceptance speech.
While Ricky Gervais was busy offending Hollywood, Natalie Portman managed to get the LOLs in a more family-friendly way. There were no tears like Gwyneth Paltrow's previous blub-fest, just a few touching words sprinkled with a couple of jokes.
Whilst up on the podium picking up the prize for Best Actress in a drama (for Black Swan), the 29-year-old first turned her attention to her gran, saying:
"I hope you're havin' a drink, Grandma! Thank you for bringing my mom into the world."
And to her new fiance, she added:
"Thank you to Benjamin, who is helping me continue this creation of creating more life. Benjamin choreographed the film, and also you might remember him in the movie as the guy when they ask, 'Would you sleep with that girl?' And he's like, 'Pffsh, no.' He's the best actor. It's not true: He totally wants to sleep with me!"
She didn't forget her co-star Mila Kunis, calling her "sweet lips" in reference to the girl-on-girl kissing scene in the film, although she gave the biggest shout-out to director Darren Aronofsky, concluding:
"Darren, I met you 10 years ago, and we talked about this for the first time, and thank you for continuing to work on this movie and then to give me such a beautiful, beautiful gift with this role. Every time we finished our takes, you would say, 'Now do this one for yourself,' and that gave me such beautiful inspiration as an actor to not just be amused, that I could create on my own as well. I love you so much and you're the most wonderful and I'm so grateful to you."
Great speech, but what is she going to have left to say when she bags that Oscar prize next month? (she's totally going to get it, isn't she?).
