Natalie Portman has revealed she's both "shocked and deeply disgusted" by the alleged anti-Semitic remarks made by fashion designer John Galliano.
The British designer was allegedly filmed declaring his love for Hitler before adding to shocked guests at a bar called La Perle in Paris, "People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed."
The video was posted on The Sun's website and comes just days after the flamboyant former creative designer of Dior was arrested for anti-Semitic and racist remarks and threatening behaviour at the same Parisian bar.
The 50-year-old, who was raised in South London's Streatham, has since been suspended by the French fashion label and now Oscar-winner Portman, the current face of Dior's fragrance Miss Dior, has released the following statement in response:
“I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”
It is not known whether the 29-year-old star will try and terminate her contract with the French fashion house.
Meanwhile, the pregnant actress, who won an Academy Award on Sunday for her role in Black Swan, has said that her baby was "definitely kicking" throughout the award ceremony.
Portman, expecting her first child with choreographer fiance Ben Millepied who had a small part in the Darren Aronofsky film, said, "I don't remember anything that happened. But the baby was definitely kicking a lot during the song portion of the show.
"One of the most exciting things about being pregnant is that I'm accepting the complete unknown. It's a complete mystery and miracle. It's really just accepting that I have no idea, which is what all of us live every day."
