Mel Gibson admits ‘slapping’

Mel Gibson has made a sworn statement admitting that he slapped Oksana Grigorieva during a heated row in January, TMZ.com reports. Earlier this year, Grigorieva claimed Mel struck her and injured her teeth while she was holding the couple’s baby during an incident on 6 January. However, Mel has insisted he was acting to prevent the child from any injury.
Sources claim Gibson made a sworn declaration on 23 June to support his defence’s strategy of "using reasonable force to protect a child from injury" in a domestic violence charge.
The actor claims Grigorieva had taken their daughter Lucia into their garden during a disagreement before returning to their house where she "started swinging Lucia erratically in her arms, jerking her body from side to side to keep Lucia out of [his] reach".
"I slapped Oksana one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality,” Mel is quoted as saying. "I did not slap her hard, I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop screaming, continuing shaking Lucia back and forth."
