Lily Allen: Dont watch my TV show
Lily Allen
Lily Allen has taken to Twitter to set the record straight about Riches To Rags, the documentary she made last year, which airs on Channel 4 next Tuesday 15 March.
Lily said that she was tempted to ask her fans not to watch the show, because some of the comments she had made during filming had been taken out of context by the media.
Unimpressed with the press coverage yesterday, Allen tweeted, Have just googled myself, am depressed. Going home and switching off broadband. I just get upset when some people cant see how nice and brilliant I am. Good day to you all.
Obviously having had time to think about the situation, The Smile singer tweeted this morning, Just a couple of things, some of you may have read about a T.V Show called Riches to rags (title not my idea) airing next Tuesday.
We started filming it a year ago and I feel like a completely different person that the one that features in the programme. (sic)
Im inclined to ask you not to watch it cause quite frankly Im embarrassed. On the other hand I want you all to watch it so you can see how the press coverage of it has been totally sensationalised and quotes taken out of context.
I should probably know better than to write this here but I feel its the only place that my words dont get minced. Thats all.
The Channel 4 documentary shows the stars venture into fashion with the recent opening of her vintage boutique, Lucy In Disguise, with older sister Sarah Owen. Lucy in Disguise loans out designer items, which some would usually be unable to afford themselves.
During the programme, Lily discusses her grief over losing her baby last year, six months into the pregnancy, saying, It was a really long battle and I think that kind of changes a person.
The singer also discussed suffering from an eating disorder, adding, There was a point last summer (2009) where I had an eating disorder, I used to vomit after meals. It is not something I am proud of. But I tell you what, a lot of people used to come up to me and tell me how great I looked.
But I wasnt happy, I really wasnt. I would like to be the skinniest, mini-est person in the world, but I know I cant do that without being unhappy. I like my food.
People who are famous and successful and live in this mad world tend to die really early, or kill themselves, or die in a drugs overdose. Id rather not so I figure I will go and eat.
Well have to wait and watch the show to find out how much the quotes have been taken out of context. So, good publicity either way.
Riches To Rags, 10pm, Tuesday 15 March, Channel 4.
