Johnny Depp already looks like the prince we all dream of, and now it turns out that he could genuinely be related to our royal family...
If Kate Middleton and Prince William's fairytale wedding wasn't enough to make us appreciate the royals, this could be it!
Who Do You Think You Are? researcher Dr. Nick Barratt says that Johnny and Queen Elizabeth could be 20th cousins, as he likely has the same great (x19) granddad as her.
Nick explained Johnny's royal roots to The Sunday Mirror:
"When I examined Johnny’s history I discovered a likely connection to the royal family.
"I've since established the family tree that demonstrates how. You have to go back more than 500 years to reach the point where his ancestors become royal."
Interested? Here's the details: Johnny's ancestral family name is Deppes, and Nick traced the name back to 14th Century French protestants living in England. One family branch are descendants of Sir William Gascoigne and Margaret Percy, who was a direct descendant of King Edward III.
The Queen is Edward’s great-granddaughter 17 times over. Johnny is likely Edward's great-grandson 19 times over. Phew!
Nick doesn't think it will ever be certain, but he certainly believes in his research:
"I believe the balance of probability is that there is indeed a link between Depp and the royals – though I doubt we’ll ever be able to prove it 100 per cent."
