We all know Hollywood is full of bitches - and that's more true than ever when it comes to the first annual dog Oscars, aka the Golden Collar awards.

Silent movie The Artist has placed its star dog Uggie front and centre of the film's promotional efforts, with the sad and headline-grabbing news that he'll be retiring after this promo is done.

Not only was Uggie in The Artist, but he also gets Twi-hard fan approval after starring with Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon in Water For Elephants - seriously, this is one well-connected canine.

There has to be an underdog, though, and in this case it's Blackie, who starred in Martin Scorsese's Hugo.

She only got included in the lineup for the Golden Collar Awards after a Facebook write-in campaign, following the plea of Scorsese on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. Scandal!

It gets even more conniving, though, as Scorsese has had to deny rumours that Blackie's facial expressions were the result of some CGI trickery - and told Ellen DeGeneres that he believes it was a smear campaign DIRECT from the crew of The Artist.

I am shocked… SHOCKED.

We'll find out who wins what on February 13, and it could be more nail biting than the Oscars themselves…

I wonder if either of them will dress up for the occasion...
