Bush calls Kanye criticism the worst
Former American President George W Bush and rapper Kanye West
George W Bush has called the moment Kanye West criticised his handling of the Hurricane Katrina crisis on live TV, the worst of his Presidency, in his new book. During a US telethon to raise money following the Katrina disaster, a highly emotional West claimed "George Bush doesn't care about black people". Bush has admitted the accusation affected him deeply.
"He called me a racist. I didn't appreciate it then; I don't appreciate it now. It's one thing to say, 'I dont appreciate the way he's handled his business.' It's another thing to say, 'This man's a racist.' I resent it, it's not true," Bush told journalist Matt Lauer during interview to publicise his new book, Decision Points. My record was strong, I felt, when it came to race relations and giving people a chance. And it was a disgusting moment.
"You're not saying that the worst moment in your Presidency was watching the misery in Louisiana, Lauer questioned. You're saying it was when someone insulted you because of that."
No, and I also make it clear that the misery in Louisiana affected me deeply as well, Bush replied. There's a lot of tough moments in the book. And it was a disgusting moment, pure and simple."
