We think Lady Gaga may have totally surpassed herself on the scale of style, eccentricity and wild imagination. The 24-year-old Bad Romance star arrived at the annual Grammy Awards last night inside an egg, where she was said to be incubating ahead of her planned performance at the live show in LA.
Yes, you heard us. Incubated. And then hatched. On stage.
The singer certainly stunned presenters and fellow guests when carried along the red carpet curled up inside the egg, with one of Gaga's assistants telling E! presenter Ryan Seacrest:
"She's in an embryonic state and won't be born until the performance."
Her stylist Nicola Formichetti added on Twitter:
"Gaga is in incubation. Tonight's performance is in collaboration with Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler."
Gaga emerged from her egg to give a thrilling (and egg-citing - sorry) performance up on stage, singing her latest single Born This Way, which was released online last Friday.
And the star, who recently informed fashion bible Vogue that she believes she has "one of the greatest voices in the industry", also emerged from her egg victorious, to pick up three of the six Grammys she was nominated for, including Best Pop Vocal Album.
Other highlights at the ceremony included Muse's Matt Bellamy gushing about pregnant girlfriend actress Kate Hudson after picking up an award for Best Rock Album. The musician said thank you to "my beautiful pregnant girlfriend", while Kate smiled and applauded Bellamy from the audience.
Katy Perry finally showed off some of her wedding photos with Russell Brand as she performed her ballad Not Like the Movies up on stage. Pictures of the couple, who tied the knot last October in India, were projected behind the Firework singer, and included the pair kissing and exchanging rings.
Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera reportedly fell after her performance at the bash, while reality TV star Kim Kardashian claimed her derriere "almost wouldn't fit" into the her Grammy dress.
Problem solved if she'd followed Gaga and come in a giant egg...
