Celebrity religion -Richard Gere Buddhism
Best known for his roles in Pretty Woman and Chicago, silver fox Richard Gere is the first celebrity that springs to mind when talking Buddhism. Gere joined the faith in 1978 after a visit to Nepal, is close friends with the Dalai Lama and is a strong activist for human rights. He is currently banned for life from China for his support of the independence of Tibet. When speaking of his aid work Gere is reported to have used his religion to explain how he can help. "What I can do is find the keys that will plug into my own 30 years of training in Buddhism, and find things that are parallel or resonant in the work that I have done." Other Celebrity Buddhists include Orlando Bloom.
