Matthew Perry tennis
Former Friends actor Matthew Perry was somewhat of a tennis star in his native Canada in his youth. Matthew was ranked 17th in junior singles and third in doubles tennis, but decided to concentrate on his acting career when he moved to Los Angeles to live with his father (John Bennett Perry, also an actor). It seems Matthew has no regrets, saying "Actually, as a kid I wanted to be a tennis player, but I wasn\'t good enough, so I became an actor. Since then, I\'ve just been lip-locking with gorgeous babes. So, let that be a lesson to all you little tennis players out there."

Gordon Ramsay football
Michelin starred celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay had the potential to be a professional footballer in his youth. He was signed to Rangers in 1984 when he was 18 years old but wasn\'t offered a contract the following year because of injury to his ligaments. He told the Observer in 2002, "There is a great feeling when you are excited and run out onto that pitch, and I don\'t give a fig what anyone says, there\'s a such a huge, huge rush. But if I\'m honest I don\'t think I was good enough to be a truly great player. Other suggestions for the team are Vinnie Jones, ex-Queens Park Rangers player-turned-actor, and pop giant Robbie Williams, who built up his own football team in Los Angeles called LA Vale.

George Clooney Baseball
Although swoony George Clooney made Leatherheads, a sporting rom com about American Football with Renee Zellweger last year, he actually harboured dreams of becoming a professional baseball player when he was younger. He made it the to try outs for the Cincinnati Reds in 1977 when he was 16, but missed out on a place on the team. The former ER star was even offered a contract to play for Ohio minor league team the Dayton Dragons in February this year. American TV producer Peter Guber, who owns the team, said, "We\'re ready to sign you up, anytime you\'re ready."
Tom Cruise,sports event,celebrity,Olympics
Tom Cruise wrestling
He may have played a football prodigy in 1983\'s All The Right Moves, but Tom Cruise\'s true sporting skill is as a wrestler. On his high school wrestling team, Tom was apparently renowned for his proficiency at the High Crotch move, which involves putting your arm between the legs of your opponent - ouch! It was sheer chance that turned Tom on to acting, after he sustained a knee injury and someone suggested he try the theatre group. The rest, as they say, is history.

Katie Price: Equestrian
Katie Price\'s alter ego Jordan couldn\'t be further away from the world of horse riding and dressage, but the 30 year-old author and glamour model has been a keen horse rider since the age of seven, and recently made headlines claiming that snobbery was the reason why she and husband Peter Andre were banned from attending the Cartier Polo Tournament in Windsor Great Park this year. Katie will take part in The Horse Of The Year Show from 8-12 October 2008, where she will perform dressage to music for the show\'s 60th anniversary. But the former I\'m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here... contestant doesn\'t want to stop there, she\'s aiming to be a part of the British equestrian team at the 2012 Olympics. Hubby Peter has just bought her a show jumping horse to help her reach her goal. In an interview with The Mirror newspaper Katie said, "I\'m going to be training every day and I\'ve already developed a six-pack from where I\'ve stepped up my riding. I\'m taking it seriously, so don\'t write me off for 2012."

Jason Statham Diving
He\'s a ducker and a diver - literally. Jason Statham began his career as a diver and came 12th in the world championships in 1992. Jason was spotted by a talent agent, and moved into modelling, which led to him being cast in Guy Ritchie\'s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells. He did his own stunt diving for his role in the 2003 remake of The Italian Job, alongside Charlize Theron. Of his diving career Jason says, "It was a great experience, you know, to travel the world and compete at a certain level. It teaches you discipline, focus, and certainly keeps you out of trouble."

The 52-year-old Thelma And Louise star failed her first attempt to make the US Olympic team, but promised to continue training, which she does for four to six hours a day in-between filming - now that\'s determination!

Guy Ritchie out shooting with friends
Madonna\'s husband, Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels director Guy Ritchie, certainly knows his way round a shotgun. Mockney Guy is the son of Lady Amber Leighton and was taught the country pursuits of fishing, hunting and shooting. In 2000 Madonna moved to England, and was said to have also taken up hunting with her hubby, but reports now say that the 4 Minutes singer has grown tired of the sport and is selling their home in the countryside.
