We’ve heard countless stories about the amount of money that Hollywood stars command from a movie; but what do they actually spend their cash on? 

We explore some of the most excessive celebrity spending ever, and wonder if these stars have even heard of the Credit Crunch.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

When they feel like spoiling themselves most families will splash out on a new TV or a fancy oven but not the most famous couple in Hollywood. In 2007 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reportedly spent £70m megabucks on a megayacht. But this is peanuts to the couple who recently received £7m from Hello! magazine just for one exclusive picture of their newly born twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. But what do you get for £70m worth of boat? The 240-ft long, three-decked yacht came complete with six ensuite bedrooms, a swimming pool, gym, and heli-pad.  Brangelina haven’t actually got a helicopter, but perhaps that is next on their celebrity-shopping list.

George Clooney

As if we needed another reason to wish we were dating George Clooney.  On Valentine’s Day 2008 the Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen star shelled out an impressive £20,000 on then-girlfriend former cocktail waitress, Sarah Larson. Clooney treated Sarah to a night at the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa at the Playboy Tower in Las Vegas’ Palms Casino Resort. The 9,000 square-foot suite features an indoor waterfall, a rotating bed, a swimming pool, plasma TV, massage room, exercise room, sauna and two bedrooms. Clooney also treated Larson to a romantic dinner at Vegas hotspot Nove as well as the Cirque du Soleil show Love at the Mirage Hotel and Casino.

Naomi Campbell

For her 36th birthday supermodel Naomi Campbell celebrated in style.  Not content spending the usual one-day celebrating, like us mere mortals, the diva spent three days partying at the world’s only seven star hotel, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, having rented out all 18 floors.  On Sunday night Campbell hosted a white themed party, on Monday the mood changed with a hip-hop theme and on Tuesday the party turned Brazilian with samba.  Guests included The Beckhams, and fellow supermodels Eva Herzigova and Linda Evangelista.  The price tag for a party, supermodel style?  A cool £1.8M

 

Nicolas Cage

Some people buy holiday homes, celebrities buy holiday islands.  44 year-old National Treasure star Nicolas Cage has three of them, and in May 2006 he spent £1.5million a 40-acre island in the Exuma archipelago, some 85 miles southeast of Nassau and close to a similar island owned by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

Prince Azim

His royal highness, 26-year-old Prince Azim of Brunei is known internationally as a billionaire playboy. The fourth in line to the throne of Brunei, and heir to a £12.5 billion oil fortune, confirmed his playboy status in 2000 when he reportedly had a £2.7million eight-carat, diamond ring and necklace set sent by private jet and hand delivered to Mariah Carey before her concert at Madison Square Gardens. The son of the Sultan of Brunei, who loves getting celebrity snaps, also reportedly gave Michael Jackson £5million, to attend his 25th birthday party in London.  

Britney Spears

The 26-year-old Oops I Did It Again star has been looking more and more like her old self recently, and judging by the amount of money the fried-chicken loving singer spends on her fitness regime so she should be.  Reports suggest that Spears spends £11,000 a month on looking good.  This includes £5,000 on nutrition, £4,000 on a personal trainer and £2,000 on a private dance choreographer. Now that’s one expensive gym membership.

Tom Cruise

When a new family moves into the street, you usually take round some homemade banana cake to welcome them to the neighbourhood. When Victoria and David Beckham moved into their new LA home back in 2007, one-man-welcome-wagon Tom Cruise gave them three new cars.  Victoria was given a £125,000 Bentley Continental GT, with monogrammed gold rims elegantly scripted VB, while David received a DUB Edition Cadillac Escalade, as well as a DUB Edition Lincoln Navigator.  Now that’s what I call neighbourly love.

Beyonce Knowles

Leggings made a bold comeback in the last few years, and many celebs couldn’t get enough of them.  But rather than heading down to her nearest Primark, where you can pick up a pair for around £2, 26-year-old, Irreplaceable singer Beyonce wore a £50,000 gold, Balenciaga pair while she performed ‘Get Me Bodied’ at the 2007 BET Awards.

Virgin Galactic: The whole of celebsville

Among those reported to want to be among the first to fly on Richard Branson’s shiny new spacecraft are actor William Shatner, former Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chilli Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro, Alien star Sigourney Weaver, musician Moby, socialite Paris Hilton and astrophysicist Stephen Hawking. Multi-millionaire Branson and his family will also be onboard the VSS Enterprise’s first commercial flight in 2009.  The price tag for being launched into space - £100,000.  Shatner was offered a free ride on the inaugural space launch in 2008 but turned it down saying: “I do want to go up but I need guarantees I’ll definitely come back.”

Kim Basinger

Not happy with buying holiday Islands, some celebrities opt for buying whole towns instead.  In 1989 Kim decided to buy the town of Braselton in her native Georgia, with hopes of turning the town into a tourist attraction with movie studios and a Basigner film festival.  The 54 –year-old L.A Confidential star was inspired to buy the town as when driving past she saw a sign saying “Braselton: If you lived here, you’d be home by now.”  In 1993, however the model, actress and former Bond girl hit financial difficulties and had to sell up.
