Scarlett Johansson
An album of Tom Waits covers by 23-year-old Hollywood starlet Scarlett Johansson featuring David Bowie on backing vocals was always going to go in one of two directions - up, up and away or plummeting to failure. The online response to her first single, Falling Down, hasn\'t been good. "Warning! There\'s a rumour going around that some people have heard this version of the song and never smiled again," said gossip site Holy Moly. Blogger What Would Tyler Durden Do was less kind, "Scarlett Johansson has set the new bar for awfulness with her Tom Waits cover of Falling Down. The only way this experience could be any worse is if this monitor grew arms and started stabbing you." Oops.

David Hasselhoff
Ex-Baywatch star David may be considered the King Of Cheese in the UK, but on the European Continent, The Hoff\'s star shines brightly on a lucrative pop career. The Hoffenator has enjoyed success in Germany since 1989, the year his album Looking For Freedom went to No 1. He\'s done well for himself in Switzerland and Austria too. David also managed to get to No 3 in the UK in 2006 with his single, Jump In My Car, helped along by a fervent fan base and internet campaign. He may be the world\'s naffest pop star, but there\'s something about sight of The Hoffster clad in a leather jacket and jeans while crooning that we secretly can\'t get enough of!

Billy Bob Thornton
Hormones do funny things to people. In Billy Bob Thornton\'s case, it inspired him to pen Angelina - a truly dire country song in honour of his wife at the time, Angelina Jolie. The video is a cringe-fest of buck-toothed Billy making love-dovey eyes at the camera, spliced with images of the couple canoodling by a pool. It featured on Thornton\'s debut album Private Time in 2001, and he\'s released three more albums since then. He regularly performs live in the States with his band the Boxmasters, who are due release their album on 10 June this year. If you like Keith Urban, you\'ll like Billy Bob.

Patrick Swayze
Multi-talented actor/dancer Patrick had a massive hit way back in 1987 with She\'s Like The Wind. The song, which he co-wrote and performed, featured on the soundtrack of the surprise hit Dirty Dancing and still gets airplay on the radio today. Patrick also made his debut on the London stage in Guys And Dolls as Nathan Detroit in 2006, and has performed on Broadway in Chicago. But we\'ll always have a soft spot for him in his Johnny Castle days - sing along girls, ‘She\'s like the wind, through my trees...\'

Robert Downey Jr
Iron Man star RDJ released his debut album, The Futurist, in November 2004, and well, it was a bit crap. Many adoring fans (including handbag) rushed out to buy their heartthrob\'s first foray into singing, only to find it was collection of sappy, instantly-forgettable ballads. Wikipedia reports that he was asked to be the support act on Duran Duran\'s tour, but he declined, which is probably just as well. It wouldn\'t have been a pretty sight watching him getting pelted with empty beer cups by 30,000 angry Duranies.

Russell Crowe
We get the feeling Russell Crowe is just desperate to be one of the cool kids. But he hasn\'t quite made it. In the \'80s he recorded a track called I Want To Be Like Marlon Brando under the name Rus LeRoq. See what we mean? In the \'90s he fronted the Australian band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, which has to be one of the worst names for a band, ever. In 2006 he formed a new band called The Ordinary Fear Of God, apparently keeping the monogram TOFOG to save money - well, he did have a slow year in 2005, he had to scrape by on $3.6m.
Lindsay Lohan,celebrity,hollywood,singer,actor
Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay began her career as a child model. Her ambition was to be a "triple threat" - a model/actress/singer like her idol Ann-Margret, and at the tender age of 21, she\'s succeeded. In 2004, after starring in two Hollywood blockbusters, Lindsay recorded her first pop album, Speak - it went platinum. She released her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), the following year but it wasn\'t as successful due to Lohan\'s inability to promote it properly because of acting commitments. Lindsay\'s next album is scheduled for release this year. Perhaps it will be called DUI.
Kevin Bacon,celebrity,hollywood,singer,actor
Kevin Bacon
Footloose legend Kevin Bacon is in a band. With his brother. It\'s called The Bacon Brothers. Their album has a song on it called Angelina, but we don\'t think it\'s about Anglina Jolie. It is, however, even worse than Billy Bob\'s offering of the same name. Lyrics include, "You were dancing in the kitchen... the light shone through your dress, from the refrigerator" and "You were feeling so elastic... but I won\'t let you break". You have to love Kevin a lot to listen to this.
Kylie Minogue,celebrity,singer,actor,pop
Kylie Minogue
Australian born pop princess Kylie started her career in showbiz as a child actor, alongside her sister Dannii. She found fame in the UK when she bagged herself the role of feisty mechanic Charlene on Neighbours in 1986. In 1987, she was signed to Stock Aitken & Waterman, aka The Hit Factory, and her first hit with the boys was the annoyingly catchy I Should Be So Lucky which went to No 1 in the UK. She had several hits with SAW, including the duet Especially For You with Neighbours co-star Jason Donavon. In the \'90s, Kylie\'s pop career went into a downturn when she tried to re-invent herself as a more serious artist. She made a spectacular comeback in 2000 with her album Fever and completed her re-invention with the massive No 1 single Can\'t Get You Out Of My Head in 2001. Despite turning 40, this year, Kylie\'s by far the hottest actor-turned-singer of the decade.
Minnie Driver,celebrity,music,actor
Minnie Driver
Oh boy, Ms Driver really went off the career rails when she tried her hand at making music. Her 2004 debut album entitled Everything I\'ve Got In My Pocket, turned out to be the musical equivalent of half a fluff-covered polo mint, an old bus ticket and a used tissue. The stand-out track was Minnie\'s indescribably awful version of Bruce ‘The Boss\' Springsteen\'s Hungry Heart. She\'s released a second album, Seastories, and ardent fans can see her live on 12 May at the Arts Theatre in London. We\'ll just stick to watching her alongside Eddie Izzard in The Riches, thanks.

Actors turned singers
by Celebrity Features Editor Zoe Drewitt
These days, it\'s not enough to be a Hollywood A-lister raking in millions from summer blockbusters. Oh no, everybody\'s got to prove that they\'re multi-talented now. Hence the multitude of actors who have launched singing careers - some have risen to pop glory, others have simply seen their musical efforts simply fade away...
