Shutter Island marks Leonardo DiCaprio’s fourth time working with director Martin Scorsese. Based on the novel by Denis Lehane, Shutter Island follows US Marshall Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and his partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) who head to Shutter Island mental asylum to investigate the disappearance of a patient. During his investigation, Daniels discovers things about the island, the patients, the doctors, his partner and himself.

Life

Leonardo DiCaprio,celebrity,celebrity pictures leonardo dicaprio Leonardo DiCaprio was born in Hollywood, California on 11 November 1974.  Drawn toward performing, Leonardo took roles doing anything from advertising bubblegum to starring in soap operas. In 1991 he was invited to join the cast of the hit ABC sitcom Growing Pains, playing Luke, a troubled homeless boy taken in by the lead the family. But, within a year Leonardo had grown tired of TV acting and decided to pursue a movie career.

He then played Arnie, opposite Johnny Depp, in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, a role that saw Leonardo nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at just 19 years old. In 1995 big things happened for DiCaprio, most notably playing one half of the star-crossed lovers in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Titanic

In 2002, Leonardo worked with Martin Scorcese on Gangs of New York, which also starred Daniel Day Lewis and Cameron Diaz. He also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can opposite Tom Hanks receiving his third Golden Globe nomination for his role as Frank Abignale Jr. In 2005, they teamed up again on the Martin Scorsese directed The Aviator. The second half of 2005 saw DiCaprio working with Scorsese for the third time on The Departed.

Environmental Awareness

Leo’s passion for environmental awareness started having a big impact in his life in 2000. He was asked to chair Earth Day 2000 and in a special on the deterioration of the Ozone he interviewed then-President Bill Clinton. In 2001, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation received the Martin Litton Environmental Warrior Award from Environment Now. In August 2002 he was involved with Global Green USA, urging leaders to join the Earth Summit in South Africa. Leonardo joined the boards of both MRDC and Global Green USA in 2004 and in early 2007 Leonardo released his environmental documentary 11th Hour 

Relationships

Leonardo’s almost as famous for dating supermodels as he is for being an actor. He had a relationship with the gorgeous Gisele Bundchen between 2000 and 2005, before meeting Israelian model Bar Rafaeli in 2005. The couple’s relationship ended in June 2009, but early reports in 2010 suggested they may be back together again.
