Early life
Jonathan Rhys Meyers was born Jonathan Michael Francis O\'Keefe in Dublin, Ireland. However, he arrived with a serious heart problem and was baptised shortly after his birth, as it was feared he wouldn\'t live long. When he was just three his parents separated and he was bought up by his mother in Cork City.

Rhys Meyers was expelled from school at 16 and spent most of his spare time hanging out in Cork\'s pool halls. Casting agents looking for Irish boys to appear in the film War Of The Buttons spotted Rhys Meyers. While he wasn\'t successful at auditions, the agents encouraged him to pursue a career in acting. His first film role came soon afterwards in A Man Of No Importance (1994). In 1998 he played a David Bowie-inspired glam rock star in Velvet Goldmine, before landing his most famous roles to date as a girls\' football coach in Bend It Like Beckham (2002).
In 2005, the actor starred in Woody Allen\'s film Match Point, and then shared the screen with Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible III.

Jonathan stars as James Reese, an aide to the US Ambassador in Paris, with a gorgeous girlfriend and a seemingly perfect life. However, James dreams of becoming a CIA agent, so he takes jobs on the side, hoping to move up the ranks. When he\'s offered his first senior level assignment he thinks his luck has come in, until he meets his new partner Special Agent Charlie Wax (John Travolta), a trigger happy, loose cannon. In 2007 Jonathan was arrested following a drunken clash with staff at Dublin airport. The actor was reported to have launched into a tirade after being told he was ‘unfit to travel\' and spent a night in the cells. His mother\'s death was cited as one of the reasons for Jonathan\'s drinking problem. Earlier in the same year, he twice checked into rehab seeking treatment for alcohol abuse, blaming his jet set schedule. In 2009 he was arrested at a bar in Paris\' Charles de Gaulle airport for challenging police to a fight and headed back to rehab for the fourth time in May this year. It was claimed his girlfriend Reena Hammer had told him, "check into rehab or I\'m dumping you."

Jonathan has three films scheduled for release in 2011. Mission Impossible IV (2011) opposite Tom Cruise, Albert Nobbs (2011), which he stars in with Amanda Seyfried and Orlando Bloom, and At Swim-Two-Birds (2011) which is rumoured to be starring Michael Fassbender and Colin Farrell.
