John Christopher Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on 9 June 1963, but raised in Florida. Johnny dropped out of school at 15-years-old in the hope of becoming a rock musician. He fronted numerous garage bands, one of which included The Kids who once opened for Iggy Pop. On a visit to Los Angeles, with first wife Lori Anne, Depp was introduced to Nicolas Cage who suggested he try acting. He made his film debut in
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) but shot to stardom when he played the role of undercover cop Tommy Hanson in the popular TV series 21 Jump Street, propelling him to heart throb status.

Things weren’t always easy for Johnny Depp. After numerous teen roles, Johnny began his collaborations with director Tim Burton playing the title role in
Edward Scissorhands (1990) opposite Winona Ryder. Following the part, he carved a niche for himself as a serious yet eccentric and peculiar performer selecting roles that surprised audiences and critics. Pirates Of The Caribbean, where he blew everyone away with his portrayal of Jack as a drunkard, whimsical and hilarious character (supposedly loosely based on Keith Richards). As if we hadn’t fallen for him already, we fell even deeper. Since then he’s continued to surprise us with his wacky, yet brilliant, characters.

Probably the most anticipated film of the year so far, Johnny Depp’s starring in Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland which is out in cinemas from 5 March 2010. This is the director-actor duo’s seventh time working together, and so hype around the film is at fever pitch. Johnny doesn’t play Alice, you’ll be pleased to know. Instead he’s tackling the role of the Mad Hatter in Burton’s contemporary take on Lewis Carol’s classic. We can’t wait to get our tickets to see it!

Johnny Depp has been in a number of high profile relationships, much to the frustration of his legion of fans. Some of his most memorable include Winona Ryder, who he met on the set of Edward Scissorhands. He had her name tattooed onto his arm, and when the relationship turned sour he had it altered to read “Wino forever”. Ouch.

Johnny then dated Kate Moss from 1995 to 1998. The pair had a wild and stormy relationship, with tabloids often reporting they had split.
