This week’s crush… the Harry Potter lads

Throughout the past seven Harry Potter films, we’ve been watching Daniel Radcliffe grow from a boy into a man. Now he’s working his magic in the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and we couldn’t help but notice (as he does get his kit off) that he’s not the little boy that lives under the stairs anymore. So, in true handbag fashion, we decided we should salute the Harry Potter lads that have been casting their spells over us for the past seven years. Hey, one of them even got named the Sexiest Man Alive last year. Alakazam.

Rupert Grint

Before he was cast in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Rupert Grint’s acting experience involved one school play. When he heard they were auditioning people for the role, he thought he’d give it a try and turned up prepared with some hip-hop lyrics about why he’d be the perfect Ron Weasley. He obviously did something right, as he was chosen for the role.

According to Emma Watson, when Rupert had earnt enough money he bought an ice cream van to drive around in. Which just makes him ten times cooler in our eyes.

\r\n\r\n

Aside from Harry Potter Rupert starred in Driving Lessons (2006) opposite Julie Walters and Cherry Bomb (2008) and Wild Target (2008).

Daniel Radcliffe

Who would have thought that the bespectacled boy that lived under the stairs at the Dursley’s House would grow up to be such a strapping young man, let alone be faced with the prospect of defeating Lord Voldermort? Daniel Radcliffe was just 12 years old when Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone hit cinemas in 2001 and became one of the world’s most recognised faces. It can’t have been easy, but we bet the pay checks helped.

\r\n\r\n

Aside from Harry Potter, Daniel starred in December Boys (2007) which he filmed in Australia and played an orphan who leaves the orphanage for a holiday by the sea with his friends, only to start competing to be adopted by some of the resort’s residents.

\r\n\r\n

In 2007, Daniel also signed up for a revival of Peter Shaffer’s Equus, about a stable hand who is obsessed with horses. The show garnered loads of press attention, mainly because Harry Potter gets naked in one scene. The show then moved to Broadway, where Daniel continued with the role.

Alan Rickman

While he might not be everyone’s cup of tea, there’s something seriously sexy about Alan Rickman. Perhaps not as Severus Snape in Harry Potter. But in life, in general, he rings our bell. It’s probably something about his monotone voice.

\r\n\r\n

After a long career in film, which has seen him play awesome roles like the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves and Hans Gruber in Die Hard, Alan took on the role of Professor Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and was perfect for it.

Ralph Fiennes

He’s played the bad guy in some epic films including The Duchess (2008), Red Dragon (2002) and Clash Of The Titans (2010), so there was only one person who could possibly have filled the evil shoes of Lord Voldemort, and Ralph Fiennes does it wondrously.

\r\n\r\n

Ralph wasn’t too sure about taking on the role of Voldermort in the fourth Harry Potter film stating that he had “never bought into [the] world” of Harry Potter in an interview with AMC’s Sunday Morning Shootout. He said that he decided to take the role when director Mike Newell showed him what Voldermort might look like. “The little kid in me that likes to dress up and be bad went ‘Yeah! I want to do it!’”

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson was an unknown when he took on the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Before his big break he’d starred in Vanity Fair (2004) with Reese Witherspoon and TV movie Curse Of The Ring (2004). While his part in the Harry Potter series only lasted two films, and didn’t get him that much attention, it was a springboard for bigger and better things. Like the Twilight franchise.

\r\n\r\n

Robert has been voted the Sexiest Man Alive a few times now, but he’s a bit like marmite people either get it or they don’t.

Christian Coulson

Christian Coulson appeared briefly in Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets, but still managed to catch our attention. Playing the young Tom Riddle, aka Voldermort, he lures Harry to the Chamber through a magic diary where he attempts to murder him with a basilisk. As you do.

\r\n\r\n

Since his stint on Harry Potter, Christian has appeared in Little Britain, The Hours (2002)) with Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman and Meryl STreep, and Gossip Girl.

Domhnall Gleeson

In Harry Potter, Bill Weasley is a Curse Breaker working in Egypt for Gringott’s Bank, and is described as being very good-looking, even getting married to Fleur DeLacour who’s half Veela. He gets himself severely injured in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower by werewolf Fenrir Greyback, and has horrible scars.

\r\n\r\n

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Bill is played by Domhnall Gleeson, who’s just as good-looking in real life. who has also appeared in Never Let Me Go (2010) and A Dog Year (2009 with Jeff Bridges who he’ll be working with again on True Grit.
