The OC
In 2003, Ben landed a role on a new show called The OC. Playing hell-bent bad boy Ryan Atwood, who moves in with the Cohen family after nice-guy lawyer Sandy Cohen helps defend him when he’s caught trying to steal a car with his brother. Ryan becomes firm friends with the Cohen’s loner son Seth, who is a little too enamoured by comic books, and starts a summer fling with Marissa (Mischa Barton) their next door neighbour, while Seth directs all of his attention at Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson). None of the four stars could have known how big the show would be, and how it would thrust them into the limelight. On being thrown into fame, Ben has said “You’re introduced to this new world where people who don’t know you think they know you, or recognise you. It’s a bizarre concept to wrap your head around, but I did alright with it.”

Southland
If you’re looking for something to fill the hole left in your life when The Wire ended, then by all accounts Southland is it. Fans of the show are raving about it, some are saying it’s the new The Wire, some are saying it beats 24, others are saying it’s the best show. Ever. Created by ER and The West Wing’s John Wells and Christopher Chulack, Southland focuses on the Los Angeles Police Department and the officers within it. Among the characters are rookie police officer Ben Sherman (Mckenzie) and his training officer John Cooper. Many have praised Southland for it’s gritty realism, focusing more on its characters than the dramatisation of life inside a police department.

Quotes
“I’ve always been kind of a loner. Continue to be. So, in that sense, Ryan and I are the same. I played football in Texas, but I didn’t really hang out with the jocks. I did honours courses, but I didn’t hang out with those kids, either. I sort of had my own group I hung with occasionally, but I’ve always been kind of myself.”
