Prince William and Kate Middleton both attended St Andrews University in Scotland, and met in September 2001. Initially, William is said to have found it hard to settle in but Kate was reportedly instrumental in persuading him to stay. In March 2002, sources say William paid £200 to watch Kate walk down the catwalk at a student show in a see-through dress, showing off her underwear beneath. William is reported to have turned to a friend and said, “Wow. Kate’s hot.” In 2002, they moved in together with friends and by Christmas 2003, rumours were rife that the pair were dating.

When the couple were spotted skiing on the Klosters together in 2004, their secret was out. At the time, William admitted he didn’t want to “get married until I’m at least 28 or maybe 30.” So perhaps Kate knew how she had a wait in store. The couple weren’t spotted kissing in public until January 2006, two years after they confirmed they were a couple.

As William started his training at Sandhurst, Kate found herself invited to the Royal Enclosure at Cheltenham by potential step-mother-in-law Camilla Parker Bowles. In November 2006, Kate took a job as a buyer for Jigsaw, which is owned by a family friend.

In April 2007, William and Kate were confirmed to have split up. William reportedly headed straight to Mahiki nightclub, jumped on a table and screamed, “I’m free!” In the meantime, Kate, who was reportedly devastated, went out with her sister to prove what William was missing. A few weeks later, Kate was photographed at the Concert for Diana, sitting a few rows behind William, sparking rumours they were back together. Weeks later it was confirmed that they were dating again.

They make a lovely couple, they are great fun to be with, and we’ve had a lot of laughs together. We wish them every happiness for the future.”
