Natasha Richardson
Actress Natasha Richardson tragically died on 18 March from the injuries she received days earlier while skiing. The actress fell on a beginners’ slope at Mont Tremblant resort near Quebec, Canada and initially showed no sign of injury but was soon taken to a nearby hospital before being flown to the Lennox Hill Hospital in New York in a critical condition. She leaves behind husband Liam Neeson and two children Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12. Join us for a look back at Natasha’s life.

Natasha Richardson was born into the Redgrave acting dynasty on 11 May 1963. Her mother is the actress and activist Vanessa Redgrave and her father, director and producer Tony Richardson. Here she is circa 1965 at 20 months old, with her mother and newly-born sister Joely.

Natasha made her film debut in 1968, aged four, in The Charge Of The Light Brigade, which was directed by her father. Her next film role was 18 years later playing Mary Shelley in Ken Russell’s Gothic, having forged a successful career as a stage actress.

Natasha won the lead actress in a musical award at the1998 Tony Awards for her appearance in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s acclaimed production of Cabaret. The show was helmed by Sam Mendes and co-directed and choreographed by Rob Marshall. Among the praise for her performance, the New York Times called Richardson “spectacular”.
