Jade Goody
Jade Goody was born on 5 June 1981 in Bermondsey, London to Andrew Robert Goody and Jackiey Budden, and had a turbulent childhood. Jade became the primary carer to her mother when she was just five years old, after Jackiey sustained major injuries and lost an arm in a motorcycle accident. Her father was a heroin addict who was in and out of prison until his death in 2005, and sold stories to newspapers after his daughter’s newly-found fame. Budden kicked Andrew out of the house when she found guns hidden underneath Jade’s cot, but later became addicted to crack cocaine herself. Jade worked as a dental nurse before deciding to audition to enter the Big Brother house in 2002, to escape from the troubles at home.

Jade entered the
Big Brother house on 24 May 2002, and celebrated her 21st birthday in front of the cameras. While inside. Jade became famed for her ‘Jadeisms’ including “Is East Anglia abroad?” and “I can’t sit here and be used as an escape goat.” One housemate even asked her, “Did you take some stupid pills or something?” She caused some headlines while on the show, and although she came fourth she was branded as the most hated person in the UK by some of the tabloid press.
In 2004, Jade returned to the Big Brother house to appear in Big Brother panto with fellow housemates Tim and Spencer, where she played the part of Cinderella.

Jade Goody
Jade faced public ridicule for her ignorance within the house but went on to become one of the biggest celebrity entrepreneurs in England, and proved her critics wrong. Since then Jade has appeared in reality TV shows, including Celebrity Driving School, and her own documentaries What Jade Did Next and Jade’s PA, starred in her own fitness DVDs, written her own cookbooks and appeared on a number of talk shows – and became the first post-Big Brother millionaire.

In June 2003 Jade had her first child, Bobby Jack, with Jeff Brazier. After a brief split they had their second son Freddie in September 2004, before a more permanent split. Bobby is now five and Freddie four.

In November 2003, Jade and Jeff took part in Celebrity Wife Swap opposite disgraced Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant Charles Ingram. Reality shows Celebrity Driving School, Celebrity Weakest Link and Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes followed. The interest in Jade’s life was furthered through her documentaries Jade’s Salon and Jade’s PA.

Jade earned more public scorn in April 2006 after crashing out during The London Marathon – having managed to run for 21 miles. Jade later admitted to Gordon Ramsay of all people, that she had eaten a lot of takeaways in preparation.

Jade launched her first perfume in June 2006, calling it Shh… Jade Goody. Critics were fast to add an ‘-it’ to the name, but Jade proved them wrong, with her perfume being more popular then David Beckham, Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton’s fragrances… which is saying something.

Big Boss
As her way of asking India to forgive her, Jade entered the Big Boss house in August 2008 for the Indian version of Big Brother. The star had already been having tests in hospital for pain in her bowels and vomiting before entering the house. Two days into her stay, she was informed that she had been diagnosed with cervical cancer. Jade broke down in the Big Boss house but maintained that she would not reveal what had happened to her fellow housemates until her family had been told about her condition. Jade left the Big Boss house as soon as she could.

In October 2008, Jade published her second autobiography called Jade: Catch A Falling Star. Her latest tell-all book charted her decline into cancer and promised to reveal the real Jade Goody – up close and personal.

At the beginning of the year, Jade’s condition had become decidedly worse. Jade, who had been having her cancer struggle documented by Living TV, announced that her cancer was terminal and she had a matter of weeks to live. Jade then went about setting her affairs in order, writing out her will and ensuring her headstone requests would be respected. The result was a media circus, with many questioning Jade’s right to document her demise in such a public manner, while others sent heartfelt messages to Jade and her family.

Jade married her fiancé Jack Tweed on 22 February, in a ceremony attended by celebrities as well as her closest family and friends. The former Big Brother contestant signed a £700,000 exclusive picture deal with OK! magazine, which she promised was going towards her son’s futures. Victoria Beckham was said to have sent a message of support in the week’s leading up to Jade’s death, which said, “David and I are moved by your fight against this cruel illness. We are both thinking of you at what must be a terrible time.” The Beckhams also sent football mad Bobby and Freddie AC Milan strips. It was also announced that Jack Tweed would have his tag removed and curfew suspended (he was under parole) so that he could be with Jade in her dying moments. Jade also organised a christening for Bobby and Freddie.

Jade Goody died in her sleep on the morning of Sunday 22nd March 2009, her publicist Max Clifford confirmed. The reality TV star died with her mother Jackiey Budden at her side at her home in Upshire, Essex, at 3:14am on Mother’s Day.
Standing outside her home Mrs Budden said, “My beautiful daughter is at peace. Family and friends would like privacy at last.”
Referring to how her public battle with cancer raised awareness of the disease, Mr Clifford said, “I think she’s going to be remembered as a young girl who has, and who will, save an awful lot of lives.” He added, “She was a very, very brave girl. And she faced death in the way she faced her whole life – full on, with a lot of courage.”
Goody is survived by Tweed and her two sons Bobby and Freddy, with ex-boyfriend Jeff Brazier. She is also survived by her mother Jackiey Budden.
