Russell Brand resigned from presenting his Radio 2 show after it was announced that both he and Jonathan Ross were to be suspended and the BBC was to take their shows off the air. The matter is being investigated by the BBC Trust and Ofcom following prank calls made to Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs on Brand’s Radio 2 show on 18 October. BBC Director General Mark Thompson said in statement, "I have decided that it is not appropriate for either Russell Brand or Jonathan Ross to continue broadcasting on the BBC until I have seen the full report of the actions of all concerned. This gross lapse of taste by the performers and the production team has angered licence payers." He also added his, "Own personal and unreserved apology to Andrew Sachs, his family and to licence fee payers for the completely unacceptable broadcast." Russell Brand apologised on Sunday for his remarks, while today Jonathan Ross called his own remarks "a stupid error of judgement" in a statement released to BBC news.

Sources say the singer was escorted by friend Blake Wood to an exclusive Harley Street clinic on Saturday afternoon. Over the weekend it was reported that Amy was facing arrest for failing to attend police questioning over allegations she hit Sherene Flash, 30, at a party in September. "She’s doing so many drugs she is completely out of it. It’s hardly surprising she missed the interview,” a friend told the Sun. The couple almost split in January after a hairdresser claimed she had slept with Ashley, but Cheryl insists the couple are now back on track. “We\'re a work in progress. Britney Spears’ father has been granted permanent legal control of his daughter, a Los Angeles court has ruled. Jamie Spears was handed conservatorship of Britney’s affairs in February after Britney had twice been forced to attend hospital. “The court finds the proposed permanent conservatorship is necessary and appropriate,” Samuel Ingham, Spears\' court-appointed attorney, told the Los Angeles Superior Court. “I\'ve met several times with [Britney] and she requested that I not object to the permanent conservatorship," he said. Legal experts have said that permanent won’t necessarily mean forever though. “People shouldn\'t read too much into the word permanent,” Mental health lawyer Terry K Wasserman told People magazine. “In many cases, it\'s just a formality to avoid having to renew a temporary status over and over again. Ms Spears can regain control of her life anytime as long as her doctors feel she\'s able to manage her own affairs."
