The voluptuous 23-year-old actress, who plays fashion magazine receptionist Betty Suarez in the hit comedy show, said that she used to loathe her curves so much that she would shed a tear every time she caught sight of her own reflection.
She said: 'I thought I was too fat. I wanted to be one of the Charlie's Angels but couldn't get into the size zero leather trousers.
'It's hard for people to see your talent if you don't fit the slim, tall, traditionally beautiful mould. We're not all size zeros and that's OK, because some of us like to eat.'
However, it seems that bubbly America has managed to win over Hollywood despite 'not fitting the mould' as she triumphed in the best comedy actress category at the recent Emmys, beating her skinny Desperate Housewives rivals to the award.
