Madonna’s bid to join the legions of celebrity adopters was formally and finally approved by Malawian courts this week. “We are very happy with what the judge has ruled,” Alan Chinula, her lawyer told reporters. “It is a positive and beautiful judgment that will have an impact on Malawi\'s adoption laws. Speaking on the red carpet at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Sharon was asked for her thoughts on the tragedy. “I’m, you know, not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, ‘is that karma?’ when you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?” BBC news reports that current figures show 67,183 people have been killed in the tragedy with 20,790 still unaccounted for, while over the weekend a further 420,000 homes in the region were destroyed by aftershocks. Being so close to the Tibet Autonomous Region, the Sichuan Province has a large Tibetan population.
