Simon Cowell has revealed he has been recruited by prime minister Gordon Brown and the Sun newspaper to organise a charity single to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal. "We made a decision today. We had a request from the prime minister and the Sun newspaper – would we put a record together?” Simon told the BBC at the National Television Awards yesterday. “We haven't got an awful lot of time, but we are going to do something and attempt to raise as much money as possible. I've got to try and get it all together in about 48 hours. Whoever we've got available is going to be on the record."Fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, who was also at last night’s awards, gave her backing to the project. "I think it's a fantastic thing to do,” before adding, “I'd love to be involved in it."
