Sharon Stone has been critcised by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals after a new book accused her of cruelty to a tarantula. In Ernie, the autobiography by Hollywood legend Ernest Borgnine, who co-starred with Sharon in 1981 film Deadly Blessing, the actor writes of a scene in the film where Sharon appeared with the giant spider and according to Ernest she did it under condition. "Sharon wanted the spider's pincers removed," he writes. "Since someone from the ASPCA [American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals] might be reading, let's just skip what happened next." But while Peta were quick to issue a statement, "She chose to make a tiny insect an amputee. Perhaps she should change her name legally to 'Heart of Stone.'" Sharon's spokeswoman tried to laugh it off. "If the tarantula was a male, we could add him to her list of her extraordinary leading men, including Richard Chamberlain, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Gere and Dustin Hoffman." Huh, you're funny.
