Paris Hilton has appeared in a special World Cup court in South Africa after being arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession, the Associated Press reports. Hilton was arrested in Port Elizabeth shortly after watching Holland play Brazil. Insiders say she was arrested in the stadium's VIP suite when the officers allegedly found a substance in her handbag. Paris was then taken to Mount Road police station, just before 8pm on Friday where she was charged and then released.
"She was found in possession of some amount of dagga [the local name for marijuana]," a police officer told the Associated Press. "We don't know how much. It's a high profile person, only the top cops are dealing with it."
Paris' publicist, Dawn Miller, has said she is awaiting details from the court appearance before commenting.
