Star Wars star Natalie Portman turned down the chance to work alongside screen great Meryl Streep because she could understand the concept of celibacy. The actress, who has a Harvard degree, was offered the part of a nun in the film version of playwright John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt but according to the writer turned it down because she couldn’t see herself as a virgin. “We asked Natalie Portman, and Natalie was very interested but kept saying she had a problem,” Shanley told GossipSauce.com. “And we finally nailed down as to what the problem was: she basically said she didn't understand celibacy.”
