Mischa Barton has admitted being placed under involuntary psychiatric hold was a “positive thing”. In July this year, the former OC star was taken to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre following a “medical emergency” at home and held under a 5150 – a Californian law that allows authorities to hold a person for up to 72 hours if they present a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder.
"I went to the hospital because of pain with my wisdom teeth and I ended up getting 'put in', but that's because I was so overwhelmingly stressed out and upset," Mischa told Heat magazine. "I think it was my teeth and the stress of having a new job and travelling. I was miserable. Actresses aren't given the time to recover after stuff like that - you're expected to bounce back from surgery and work right away again. I was shocked it went that far but I think it was necessary for me to take that time out,” she added. “I'm so much more settled and calm now. Ultimately, it was a positive thing."
Shortly before her hospital stay, handbag.com caught up with Mischa when she opened the Harrods sale.
