Man detained over Leona attack

A London court has ruled that the man who admitted punching Leona Lewis at a book signing will remain in hospital.
29-year-old Peter Kowalczyk has been detained under the Mental Health Act after admitting punching former X Factor champion Leona Lewis, BBC News reports. Peter Kowalczyk, a schizophrenic, was heard shouting "gotcha" as he hit Leona in the face during a book signing in London on 14 October. Kowalczyk admitted the assault at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court. "I feel completely devastated by this attack," Leona told the court in a witness statement. "Now I am very frightened about going out in public and I don't know where the next attack will come from and if this will be more serious than what has just happened." District judge Howard Riddle ordered Kowalczyk should remain in hospital for an indeterminate period. "This is what happens when you don't take your medication," he said. "A woman is now devastated."
