Louis Walsh defends Asperger’s contestant

X Factor judge Louis Walsh has spoken out in defence of the show's decision to allow an Asperger's Syndrome sufferer to audition.

Louis Walsh has defended X Factor's decision to let a man with Asperger's Syndrome audition for the show. 21-year-old Scott James explained to the judges how his condition, a form of autism that causes sufferers to struggle with social relationships and communication, had stopped him leaving the house for seven years before impressing them with a song. "Is he under too much pressure? I think it has to be his choice. Nobody forces anybody to go to an audition. I think it's a real-life story." Louis told the Radio Times but added, "People don't realise the pressure that these acts are under, especially when they're competing with everybody else backstage." Earlier this year, Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle ended up in The Priory suffering from exhaustion.
