Council leaders in Los Angeles are to decide whether stricter regulations need to be imposed in areas of the city to control paparazzi photographers. Officials from West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu and Calabasas gathered yesterday to discuss measures to control the photographers after saying they have been concerned that they have become more aggressive in recent years. “This is a response to their lack of responsible behaviour.” City Councilman Dennis Zine said adding, “You can smoke, but you can't smoke in certain areas. You can go 55 miles-per-hour, but you can't do it in a school zone. So we're not saying you can't take the picture.” A spokesman for Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, says "As it stands today, the sheriff's department is confident and comfortable that the laws that exist provide enough to ensure the safety and security of residents."
