Lindsay has not seen her father Michael since before he went to prison in New York for driving while intoxicated and other offences two years ago.
However, the father and daughter were reunited when Michael visited Lindsay recently in the Cirque Lodge treatment centre in Utah where the Mean Girls star is in rehab for drink and drug addictions.
Lindsay, who is notorious for her wild party lifestyle with Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and on-off love Calum Best, was arrested on two counts of driving under the influence earlier this year.
Now it seems the star is determined to clean herself up.
Michael said: 'When we finally came face to face we just clung on to each other and did not stop crying for at least half an hour.
'Lindsay said, "Daddy, I have done some terrible things and been addicted to drugs but please believe me I will never do drugs again. I hate Hollywood and I don't want to work there. I need a break and I am moving away. I will stop hanging around with the people that are bad for me." '
