Lily Allen wins “substantial” damages

Pop star Lily Allen has accepted libel damages over a newspaper story that claimed she had insulted the Beckhams and Cheryl and Ashley Cole.

Lily Allen has accepted "substantial" damages from The Sun over a story that claimed she had slated Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Cole and their respective husbands. In May, The Sun's Bizarre column reprinted quotes said to be from an interview Lily gave to French football magazine SoFoot in which the singer had laid into the Beckhams and Coles. However, at London's High Court today, the paper - through their solicitor, Mike Patrick - offered their sincere apologies for the embarrassment and upset the article caused, Sky News reports. During proceedings Lily's solicitor told the court that News Group Newspapers had accepted that she had not been interviewed by the magazine and did not make the statements in question.
