Lily Allen: ‘music biz is sexist’

Pop star Lily Allen has claimed an "an undertone of sexism" exists in the music industry.

Lily Allen has accused the music industry of being sexist and claimed women have to work harder than men to be taken seriously. "It's more about being a young female, because I think that men can get away with things," Showbiz Spy quote Lily saying. "Being a 30-year-old young man, you can get away with more than being a 30-year-old young woman. Within a professional environment I don't think that you can get away with as much being a woman as you can being a man.
"I think that people assume that with people like Duffy and Adele and me and Amy Winehouse that we are puppets being run by some men and some big, more powerful men in the background," Lily added. "Whereas I don't think people would think the same about Paolo Nutini and James Morrison. The sort of legalities and stuff have come a long way in that sense, but there's definitely an undertone of sexism that exists everywhere."
