Lily Allen denies condoning drugs

Singer Lily Allen has defended the use of cocaine.

Lily Allen has denied she condoned the use of drugs in an explosive new interview. "The only story is that drugs are bad and they will kill you - you will become a prostitute, a rapist or a dealer. But that's not true," Lily was widely quoted telling Word magazine. "I know lots of people who take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work. But we never hear that side of the story. I wish people wouldn’t sensationalise it. Some people are just bad at taking drugs." However, after a mass of criticism the singer issued a statement to clarify her views and insist she doesn't condone the use of drugs. "During an interview with Word magazine Lily Allen was asked about the lyrics of a song on her album called Everyone's At It," the statement from her spokesman reads. "The song's subject matter concerns drug use. In her answer she replied that she "had no statement to make, I just wish people wouldn't sensationalise this thing that just exists". At no point does she say that drugs are a good thing or that she condones drug use; in fact she says that "I can spot the signs (of people on drugs) and it terrifies me". The song itself talks about a culture of both legally prescribed drugs like anti-depressants and also illegal drug use. Lily Allen would like to state unequivocally that she does not condone illegal drug use and has every sympathy with individuals and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs."
