Katie Holmes was Tom Cruise's fourth choice to be his wife and mother of his child an ex-Scientology big wig has claimed. Speaking to New York Daily News' Page Six column Marc Headley, an ex-Scientologist, claims a list of potential brides were drawn up by the religion's top brass for the Top Gun star under the guise that they were casting for a new Mission Impossible film. Marc claims Tom had confessed to best friend and Scientology leader David Mascavige that he was struggling to meeting girls, so the religion organised the audition. Headley says, "They went for Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba, in that order. Jennifer and Jessica didn’t bite but Scarlett took the bait and came in for an audition. When she arrived and found out it was the Scientology center in Hollywood, she freaked out and didn’t do a tape.” According to Marc, Katie was fourth choice but when she arrived Tom apparently told David that he knew she was the one.
