Kate Winslet has escaped to Mexico after confirming she has separated from Sam Mendes. The Oscar-winning actress and film director announced yesterday that they had agreed to separate after nearly seven years of marriage. “Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” their lawyers said in a statement. “The split is amicable and by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.” The couple confirmed they had split earlier this year, which explained Winslet going solo at the Oscars last week. At the time Kate said Sam was at home “babysitting” the children.
Winslet and Mendes married back in 2003, and have a six year-old son, Joe, together. The actress also has a daughter, Mia, nine, from her first marriage to assistant director Jim Threapleton.
