John Sergeant has announced he is pulling out of Strictly Come Dancing as he’s worried he might win the show. Despite consistently receiving the lowest scores from the judges, the journalist’s popularity with the general public has always kept him from being voted off. “I am sorry to say I have decided to leave Strictly Come Dancing. It was always my intention to have fun on the show and I was hoping to stay in as long as possible,” John said in a statement to the BBC. “The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far. I would like to thank Kristina and all those viewers who have been rooting for me through the series.” Last weekend Cherie Lunghi, a favourite to win the show was voted off while John survived in a decision judge Bruno Tonioli called “appalling”. “We are very sad to see him go," BBC One controller Jay Hunt said. "We would have liked him to stay but we respect his decision to leave.” John and dance partner Kristina will be performing a farewell dance this Saturday on the show."
