Joe McElderry wins the X Factor

After tense final South Shields teenager Joe McElderry has won this year's X Factor.
Joe McElderry has beaten call centre worker Olly Murs to win this year's X Factor final. Joe, mentored by Cheryl Cole, won 61% of the 10m votes cast to win the competition, earning himself a £1m record deal and an all-but-guaranteed Christmas No 1 single. His debut single, The Climb, is available to download now and in shops from Wednesday.
"I remember the first time I saw you and I remember telling the other three, 'This guy could actually win the show,' head judge Simon Cowell told McElderry during the show. "I feel responsible for your success and very proud of everything you've achieved," before later revealing, "We're going to take our time with Joe. We'll do our best and he could surprise a lot of people."
