Political rock band Rage Against The Machine are beating X Factor champion Joe McElderry to this year's Christmas No 1, the Official Chart Company have said. "Two different records have captured the nation's imagination," The OCC's Martin Talbot told press. "According to our initial sales estimates, there is no doubt that this tussle is far from over."
The Climb, Joe McElderry's cover version of Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana hit, was released digitally immediately following the X Factor final. However, disgruntled music fans had already set up a Facebook group aiming to get Rage Against The Machine's 1992 classic Killing In The Name to the top of the festive chart. So far the group, that maintains their efforts are not a personal attack on Simon Cowell, has clocked up more than 750,000 members and raised £30,000 for homeless charity Shelter. "I think the campaign's aimed directly at me, Simon Cowell explained before this weekend's X Factor final before adding, "It's stupid."
