Jessica Simpson has caused anger in America’s Native American community after using a racial stereotype in a recent interview. During a brief chat with TMZ this week about her break-up from NFL quarterback Tony Romo Simpson was asked if she would take back the speedboat she gave the sportsman recently. “I’m not an Indian giver,” Jessica replied. The phrase refers to someone who gives a gift and asks for it back and is based on the stereotype that Native American’s are untrustworthy. "Most people flippantly use the comment 'Indian giver' without realising its true meaning,” Jacqueline L. Pata, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, said. “Jessica's comment provides us with a good chance to educate people not to stereotype Native Americans by using a comment that is both incorrect in the way most people use it, and culturally insensitive to Native people."
