A Los Angeles city investigation into the cost of Michael Jackson's recent memorial concert has found possible criminal and civil wrongdoing, a city attorney has revealed. The public tribute at the Staples Center is estimated to have cost the city $1.4m (£850,000) in traffic control, security and overtime payments for more than 3,000 police officers. However, during a meeting yesterday attorney Carmen Trutanich said the investigation had changed. "It's taken an unexpected tour that raises both civil and criminal aspects," he explained before adding, "I don't even know if there's any crimes that have been committed. We took a turn in a different direction and we're investigating. That's it." Last week, LA councilman Dennis Zine called the ceremony a "rip off" and expressed outrage at the reported $48,000 (£29,000) spent on sandwiches for police officers on the day.
