Matt Lucas has pulled out of his London theatre role after his ex-civil partner Kevin McGee hanged himself.
The Little Britain star is said to be “utterly devastated” after his former husband was found dead at his flat on Monday, 10 months after the little Britain star divorced him.
Officers are reported to have rushed to his home in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh after a friend alerted police to McGee’s Facebook status update, which read, “Kevin McGee thinks death is much better than life”.
In a statement police said, “(We) were called to an address in Bruntsfield Gardens, Edinburgh, at around 8am yesterday morning where a 32-year-old man was found dead.”
Lucas has left Prick Up Your Ears until further notice, said producers. His agent said he had no comment to make.
A friend of Matt and Kevin told the Sun, “Matt was floored when he heard the news. He always loved Kevin despite their differences and their difficult marriage. Matt is utterly destroyed by this.”
Lucas became the first gay celebrity “divorcee”, when their 22-month civil partnership was dissolved on the grounds of McGee’s unreasonable behaviour, but specific behaviour was not mentioned on court documents.
