Actress Farrah Fawcett has died following a battle with cancer. The Charlie’s Angels star had recently returned to St John’s Health Center in Los Angeles for treatment for cancer, first diagnosed three years ago. Farrah was best known for being the blonde-haired, blue-eyed poster girl of 1970s America and her role on Charlie’s Angels. Ryan O’Neal, her partner since 1982, and her friend Alana Stewart were reportedly at Farrah’s side throughout her final days.
“She’s gone,” O’Neal said in a statement. “She now belongs to the ages.”
Earlier in the week, Ryan revealed he and Farrah planned to marry after their 27 years together. The couple had a son Redmond, together, born in 1985.
On 24 June Fawcett’s publicist wrote on social networking site Twitter that the actress was close to death and had been read the last rites.
Farrah was first diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006 and began treatment, including chemotherapy and surgery. Four months later, on her 60th birthday, she released a statement saying she was delighted to have been given the all clear. In May 2007 the cancer returned and Farrah reportedly sought alternative treatment in Germany. Her condition became critical in April this year, after the cancer spread.
Friends of the star have come out to pay tribute since the news broke of her death. Charlie’s Angels star Jacklyn Smith said, “Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith. And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels.”
