David Beckham: rapper?

Former England captain David Beckham agreed to perform a rap on the official 2002 World Cup song before the FA decided to release another track.

David Beckham was set to perform a rap in a reworking of New Order's classic World In Motion for the 2002 World Cup before the Football Association decided to use an Ant and Dec song instead, bassist Peter Hook has claimed. The band originally recorded the song for the 1990 World Cup and famously featured attacking midfielder John Barnes' rapping skills. "I think for the last World Cup, [late music mogul] Tony Wilson lined up Beckham to do the rap and we were going to redo the song. But The FA then reconsidered it, saying, 'No, no, no, we're going with Ant and Dec'," Hook told TalkSport. "I would have thought that was a hell of a chance. I would have loved to have heard Beckham do a rap and he was up for it." Ant and Dec's song, We're On The Ball, reached No 3 in the single's charts.
