Chris Brown has told a Los Angeles court he is not guilty of assaulting and making threats to his on/off girlfriend Rihanna. Brown was arrested in February for an alleged assault on the umbrella singer. Court documents detailed how the two got into a fight when Rihanna found a text message from another woman on Brown's phone with police notes saying “Brown punched her in the left eye with his right hand then continued to punch her. The assault caused her mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.” Brown, who faces five years in prison if found guilty, is due to return to court again in three weeks time although experts in the US say his not guilty plea is the start of an attempt to strike a plea bargain with the court. Meanwhile, Rihanna’s lawyer has confirmed she will testify should she be required to do so. “My client recognises it is not up to her what kind of deal. It is up to the District Attorney to decide,” Donald Etra told the Associated Press. “She would prefer that this be resolved expeditiously and fairly so she can get back to her life, which is exactly what she wants to do.”
